WMBS Honored Twice by the PA Association of Broadcasters!
On May 5th, WMBS was recognized at the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters (PAB) 2023 excellence in Broadcasting Awards Luncheon in Harrisburg, receiving two awards for Outstanding Radio Personality (Matt Sapienza/Matt Sap in the Morning) and Outstanding Play-by-Play Coverage of a Local Sporting Event (Belle Vernon at Laurel Highlands High School Basketball 1/10/23, Brian Mroziak/Tony Hanula, with production by Nick Barcheck).
WMBS has now won 15 PAB awards since 2010. In past years WMBS also won Outstanding Local Newscast (2010 and 2011), Outstanding Radio Commercial (2012 and 2020), Outstanding Radio Series (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2018) and Judges' Merit Awards (2013, 2014 and 2015).
Matt Sapienza joined the WMBS Team in February 2022 and hosts Matt Sap in the Morning Monday thru Friday from 6-10:15am. A native of Long Island, New York, and a Hofstra University Graduate, Matt joined WMBS after a stint at legendary WABC in New York City.
The WMBS High School Sports Team consists of play-by-play announcer Brian Mroziak who has been calling games at the station since 2001 along with Steve Superick, Tony Hanula, and Gary Frankhouser, with Josh Scully joining the team this past December. The station began live video simulcasting High School Sports in 2020 with camera work being done by Bill Dice, Donnie Santore, Sarah Camp and Jerry Dupey. Nick Barcheck is the longtime Executive Producer of High School Sports Coverage and has been working at the station since he was 15 years old in 2010.
